How to convert MP3 to MIDI, WAV to MIDI ? FREE SOLUTION

  Answer:

It is possible to convert WAV files to MIDI. However, there are certain fundamental limitations.

PCM WAV files usually contain full audio information. Everything that you can hear. In other words, WAVE Format is a digital representation of everything that microphone can record.

.MID files usually contain only just a sequence of musical notes. Note, here's a HUGE difference! MIDI Format is a digital representation of musical notes and associated standard instruments.

Recognition of possible sequences of musical notes inside the raw WAV audio file is not such a simple task as it seems. It is necessary to create advanced mathematical algorithms. And even this modern mathematical approach gives quite limited results.

- The first question: How to determine what type of sound is a music and what is not ? Hey, maybe everything is music ? So, this question really appears in practice when it is necessary to know how to convert WAV to MID.

- Another question: How to separate sounds that are mixed together ? It is not so easy to create a mathematical model that can perfectly detect and separate various sounds.

One of the possible easy-to-use solutions that allows to perform the task is a freeware program Amazing MIDI.

Description of the program: http://www.gromkov.com/faq/conversion/amazing_midi.html

This software can recognize and convert only instrumental music styles. It means, music without voices. And it works in the following way: 1) You specify the musical wav file 2) A theoretical TONE INSTRUMENT wav file that is similar to the instruments in the music 3) Choose the name of a MIDI file and click to convert.

The software already contains several tone files, however you can specify your own instrument.

Step 1. Download the program: Click here to download Amazing Midi (760KB)

Step 2. Please note, this tool can read only WAV files (22Khz or 44kHz PCM format). If you want to convert only audio fragment, or if you have MPEG/AVI video clip with music that you want to convert into MIDI Format, or MP3/OGG/WMA files, then try to use Vidmex as an intermediate converter. It can convert any video or audio format supported by your system into WAV PCM format. It can also extract audio fragment from any media file and save it as WAV. Click here to download Vidmex.

- Install and launch Vidmex. Next, click File -> Add File(s)... on the Playlist menu and add your video/audio file with music.
- Select your video/audio file in playlist and press A hot key (or use menu Operation -> Extract Audio).
- Enter the new filename and choose the destination folder. Select WAV as an Output Format. Click Next.
- Choose PCM, select Stereo 44Khz or 22Khz and click Next.
- Done! Now you can use the extracted WAV file to convert to MIDI format!

Step 3. Install and launch Amazing MIDI. Click Start -> Program Files -> Amazing MIDI.

Step 4. Click File -> Specify Tone File.... Choose piano0.wav if your music consists of high tones or piano1.wav for low tones.

Step 5. Click File -> Specify Input File.... Choose your WAV file with music.

Step 6. Click File -> Specify Output File.... Choose MIDI file name.

Step 7. Click Transcribe -> Transcribe.... The window with settings will appear.

Step 8. It is recommended to set: Minimum Analysis = -70Db , Minimum Relative = -10Db , Minimum Note Length = 6. In any case, we suggest you to try to experiment several times.

Step 9. Finally click Start. Now you've got it -- MIDI file.
