STEP 1: Creating a new project
Creating a new project from a Start Page:
-
Run AVS Video Editor clicking the AVS Video Editor
icon at your desktop or go to the Start menu -> Programs -> AVS
Media -> AVS Video Editor -> AVS Video Editor.
-
At the Start Page click the New Project button .
-
The Project Parameters wizard will start. It will suggest
that you set the parameters for your project at the very beginning of your
work. It is strongly recommended to set project parameters according to the
source file parameters or according to your output movie to avoid quality
losses.

At the first step of the Project Parameters wizard you
should enter the file name for your project and set it's location. Click the Browse...
button to open the standard windows explorer menu and select the project
location. Please take into account that you will get an info message in case a
project with the name you typed already exists. After you finish, please click
the Next>> button.

If you are new to video editing we'd like you not to change any
of the default settings represented in existing presets.
-
Click the Finish button. Now you have created a project
and are ready to start Importing
source files to AVS Video Editor.
To create a new project in the middle of work in AVS Video Editor
please go to the File menu -> Project -> New Project
or just press Ctrl+N at your keyboard. After that follow the steps 3-4
described above.
STEP 2: Importing source files
-
To import video please click the Import Media button in
the Start menu pane.

-
After that use the Add Video button and the Import Files
standard explorer window will appear.

Here you should select the files for importing and click Open.
For further convenience while editing project you might want to
split the imported file into scenes. Each scene will be displayed as a separate
clip in the collection. For that check the Enable Scene Detection check-box
and choose the type of importing video from the list. After you are done, click
the New Collection Package button.
You can visually judge the importing process with the help of Preview.
To cancel importing click the Cancel button. You can also see the
quantity of scenes found in the imported movie.
Please note that you can simply drag the files to be imported
from the Explorer and drop them to the Media Library.
When necessary file is imported into AVS Video Editor,
you are ready to
place the imported videos to the storyboard.
STEP 3: Placing video to the storyboard
 |
To start placing the imported video to
the storyboard please click the Make Video icon in the Create Movie
menu pane.
|
After that you will find the Media Library items and
clips present in the highlighted item in the
Media Library and the Workspace displayed in
the Storyboard mode. Working in this mode you can add or remove video
clips from your project, change the sequence of clips at storyboard, trim video
clips added to your project.
To add video to the storyboard please use drag-and-drop method:
drag the desired video icon from the Media Library to the Storyboard:

To change the sequence of your video clips it's easier to use Move
Left
and Move Right
buttons. Note that there is an opportunity to use multiselection feature: all
of the videos selected in the Media Library will be added to the Storyboard.
When all of the necessary video clips are added, it's time to
import the source audio file into AVS Video Editor.
STEP 4: Importing source audio files
-
To import audio please click the Import Media button in
the Start menu pane.
-
After that click the Add Audio button and the Import Files
standard explorer window will appear.

Here you should select the files for audio importing and click Open.
After you are done, click the Import Media button.
You can visually judge the importing process with the help of Preview.
To cancel the importing click the Cancel button.
Please note that you can simply drag the files to be imported
from the Explorer and drop them to the Media Library.
When necessary audio file is imported into AVS Video Editor,
you are ready to apply
audio track to the Timeline.
STEP 5: Applying audio track to the Timeline
-
To start adding your audio track you should switch into the Add
Audio mode. For that please click the Add Audio button in the Edit
Movie menu pane.

-
To add audio track to the Timeline please use
drag-and-drop method: drag the desired track icon from the Media Library
to the Timeline.

Now it's time to regulate
the volume control with the help of the envelope tool.
STEP 6: Volume Control
You can adjust the audio levels between the two audio tracks
(the audio that video clip contains and the audio added to your project).
Adjusting the audio levels determines which audio will play louder than the
other. The default setting plays the audio in both tracks at equal levels. The
audio levels you select will play throughout the entire portion of your movie.
By adjusting the audio levels, it could be set so that dialog in your video
clip can be heard over the music that plays in the background. To adjust audio
levels please use Audio Balance slider at the Timeline Main Video
section. Drag the slider and use the pop-up tip to set necessary audio level.

Besides that, at each audio track reflected at the Timeline
you can see an envelope that depicts the volume control. You can regulate it
differently according to your project's details.
To add a control point to the envelope,
double-click within the envelope line (where the mouse cursor changes to a
hand) and drag the control point to the location where you want it. To move a
point on the envelope, click and hold on the point and drag it
to a new location. To delete a control point move the point more
than 20 pixels over the track line up or down. You can use this feature to
smooth transition between two tracks. When the mouse cursor is located over a
point, you will see it change from an arrow to a rhombus. For example,
screenshot below illustrates a project where the background music's volume
fades out and the music sounds first quieter and them grows gradually till the
end of your project.

After you are done, you should
save your video.
STEP 7: Saving your video
 |
AVS Video Editor has an
opportunity to save the created movie to several common video formats. To do
that click to open the Save Movie menu pane. The available output
formats are: AVI, MPEG, WMV, Real Media, QuickTime,
3GP and MP4.
Select the necessary format button and click it. After that the Save
to Selected format window will appear. Follow the instructions of the
step-by-step explaining wizard to save your movie onto your hard drive.
Congratulations! You have created a movie with your own sound
track!
