How to reduce (minimize) the size of a video file ? COMMERCIAL SOLUTION

Sometimes you might need to convert your video so that it would have a smaller size to fit onto an optical disc.

Using AVS Video Converter you can reduce the size of a video file if you need to.

Let's suppose you have a video on your personal computer hard disk drive and would like to minimize its size so that it could fit a standard single layer DVD. Follow the steps below to do that:

Step 1 :

Download and install AVS Video Tools.

Step 2 :

Run AVS Video Converter (from AVS Video Tools) and select your input video file.

To select a video you would like to convert hit the Browse... button next to Input File Name Field. In the opened Windows Explorer Window browse for the necessary video file:

Use the Open button to load the video into AVS Video Converter.

Step 3 :

Set up the conversion parameters.

After you have selected the video input file, press To DVD button on the main panel to convert your video file into DVD compatible format. In the list of Profiles select one of the offered profiles. Note that if you want to reduce the video size you will need to select the profile that will let you save your output video onto one disc.

Note, that you should check what TV standard your DVD player and TV set support.

Step 4 :

Set up a proper path for your output DVD.

Click the Browse... button next to Output File Name field and select a location on your HDD for the output DVD files and folders:

NOTE! When you select a location for your output video file, you should save the file to your personal computer HDD.

Step 5 :

Convert your video files.

After you have set up all the conversion parameters, hit the Convert Now! button to start converting.

If your output video is too big for a single DVD the following window will appear:

You will need to select the Shrink to 1 disc option so that the program could reduce the output video size.

The result of the conversion should be a folder with DVD (or SVCD/VCD) video files that will be recorded onto a disc with the help of the AVS Video Converter internal burning engine. It will be launched automatically when the conversion process is over.

Note: if you would like to convert your video into other supported video formats, you will need to select one of the preset profiles with smaller values of the bitrate (measured in kbps - kilobits per second - the lesser the value, the smaller the output file size, but the quality of the output video also deteriorates) or edit the selected profile using the Edit Profile... button and select the necessary bitrate for your video.

Step 6 :

Burn your resulting DVD onto a disc.

Insert a blank DVD into your computer optical disc drive. Make sure that the disc is compatible with your drive.

The AVS Video Burner application will be launched to guide you through the burning process so that you could record your converted video onto a disc with no difficulty.

You can select the necessary disc drive if you have several, refresh it and mark the Verify disc check-box to make sure the disc is recorded correctly:

After that click the Start burning! button to begin the recording.

Note, that if the disc is not empty you will be offered to erase it. If you do not want to do that, you can eject the disc and use another one instead.

After the burning is over the disc will be ejected automatically. Note, if you checked the Verify disc the recording will take a little longer depending on the output files size as the program will need time to verify the recorded files.

Now you can watch your recorded DVD on your Home DVD Player!
