Step 1.  Launch PicaJet FX. You can add images from Camera, Hard disk, CD/DVD, Shell, Scanner or Web-Camera.

In order to add pictures from camera, click on the menu: File -> Add Pictures -> From Camera. The window will appear. Select your camera device from the list, choose the destination path (where picture should be copied) and click Import. If you select the "Append Date to Path" item, the files from the camera will be copied into a new folder. The folder name will be the current date and time.

If you want to add pictures from your hard disk into the program, then click on the main menu: File -> Add Pictures -> From Files and Folders. Browse the directory structure, select necessary files and click Import. If your pictures are already sorted into folders, you can automatically create categories according to these folders. For this, select the "Create Categories from Folders Names" item. If there are categories in the IPTC fields in the pictures, you can easily import them. For this, select the "Create Categories from IPTC keywords" item.

To add pictures from CD/DVD, click on the menu: File -> Add Pictures -> From CD/DVD. Insert CD/DVD disc with pictures, select the drive and click Import.

It is possible to add pictures into PicaJet right from the Windows Explorer (Shell). Select images in Windows Exlorer, right-click and choose "Add to PicaJet..." from the menu.

You can also add pictures from Scanner or from Web-Camera. Click on the menu: File -> Add Pictures -> From Scanner. JPG is an image format used by default. If you want to change the format, then click "Customize output format". Select source device, choose the output folder where to copy files, and click OK.

Step 2.  Next, you can create Categories for images. Categories simplify pictures search, and allow to quickly select necessary group of pictures to print/email/edit/create slideshow etc. You can find Categories at the left side of the main window of the program:

Categories could be created automatically during the process of adding images into the program (at Step 1), if you checked the option to "Create Categories from Folders Names".

In order to create Category, click the "book" icon on the left side of the window. Next, you can select group of images using mouse, and then drag and drop images into the created category. If you hold Ctrl key, then you can select several categories, and after that just click on images to set the relationship with chosen categories.

Category can be deleted by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete category" from the menu.

Step 3.  You can group images by using "Locate by". Select images or categories of images you want to group by holding Ctrl key, and then choose one of the method of grouping: according to the date of image creation (timeline), the date of importing to the program, relative location of folders on hard disk, and rating (if you previously rated each image from 1 to 5 points).

You can set rating of each image by clicking on stars or by pressing a key: 0,~,1,2,3,4,5. Description of each image can be changed by clicking the "Describe" field in Properties or by pressing Ctrl+D key.

In order to sort images, click on the main menu: View -> Arrange By. You can sort by Rating, Caption, Quick Edit, Date, Imported Time, File Name, Location, File Size, Image Size, Format, DPI, Created Date, Modified Date, EXIF. Images will be sorted separately within each group.

PicaJet allows to search images using keywords (in description, categories, file name and EXIF), within selected categories, and also to find duplicates. Press F3 or Ctrl+F to search images.

You can increase workspace by using TAB key.

Step 4.  Edit your pictures. Click "Edit" button on the toolbar. Select group of pictures and apply an operation: Rotate Left/Right, Flip, Crop, Brightness/Fluorescence.

There's a nice feature, called Autofix -- it allows to automatically correct brightness and fluorescence values of each picture.

PicaJet’s built-in photo corrector has Sharpen, Levels, Sepia, Red-Eye removal tool:

Step 5.  If you want to minimize size of your pictures, or prepare thumbnails for your web page, you can resize and convert images in batch mode.

RESIZING: select pictures or group of pictures and click on the menu: Tools -> Picture Size. Set new width, height and click OK. New pictures will be created by default (original files will not be replaced).

CONVERTING: select pictures or group of pictures and click on the menu: Tools -> Convert. Choose a new image format: JPEG, BMP, GIF, TIFF, PNG, TGA, specify properties and click OK. New pictures will be created by default (original files will not be replaced).

If you want to return to previous original images then click on the menu: Tools -> Original Files -> Revert to Originals.

If you want to delete the previous original images then click on the menu: Tools -> Original Files -> Remove Originals.

Step 6.  There's a way to quickly rename many pictures. Select the pictures and click on the menu: Edit -> Batch Rename. You can construct new file names using several drop-down lists with predefined values, such as image date or size. You can also enter any text and numbers. Numbers are used as starting points of increasing counter values assigned for each file.

PicaJet allows to hide private photos. Mark your photos using the hidden tag, select images and press CTRL+SHIFT+H. You can set a “master switch” to show or hide “hidden” photos using the Ctrl+H key combination.

In order to print photos, select several files and click the "Print" button on the toolbar.

You can set IPTC and EXIF information -- select pictures, click on the main menu: Update EXIF/IPTC. Check the "Customize..." option. You can save category list, categories structure, insert your contact information and your copyright to the pictures.

Step 7.  PicaJet allows to upload your pictures to the Flickr service (prepare, optimize, copy categories, convert file formats as required).

There's also Send-to-Mobile feature that allows to adjust and upload images to mobile phone.

PicaJet makes possible to create photo gallery for your Web Site using various templates and even save photos to CD and DVD as a web-based photo-album!
